In 1959
I designed a railing for a supermarket in the Eur area of Rome.
The blacksmith who had produced the piece gave me the pieces
that were leftover from cutting the sheets of iron. My studio
was filled with all these scraps of metal, which gave me the
idea to make sculptures out of them, which is what I did over
the following five years.
